It seems that some small companies are going to the dogs. At the Winning Workplaces conference in Chicago last year, a slideshow showcasing this year’s Top Small Workplaces illustrates at least one consistent theme: several of the winning companies allow employees to bring their dogs to work. That trend is evident here in the Carolinas as well. In fact, at a lot of Charlotte, NC marketing agencies and Charlotte, NC advertising agencies, dogs add to the friendly, relaxed atmosphere.
This isn’t a new concept. Some business owners I talked to believe having a dog — or a few dogs — noticeably reduced the general level of anxiety in the office. In fact, the New York Times has recently reported that petting a dog can reduce workers’ stress levels and generally make everyone a little happier. And in an era where traditional benefits like health insurance coverage are out of reach for so many small businesses, these so-called “soft benefits” may help compensate.
